One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Utagawa Hiroshige Innovations in Perspective and Compassion
A special exhibition featuring all 120 prints from Utagawa Hiroshige's (1797-1858) late masterpiece “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.” 119 prints total, including one by the second-generation Hiroshige), plus one “Catalog” print by the popular designer, Baisotei Gengyo (1817-1880), are held in two phases. Ukiyo-e was flourished primarily during Edo (former Tokyo) period (1603-1867) “Famous Views of Edo: Hiroshige's Challenge” is currently on display at the Kawasaki Ukiyo-e Gallery.
This series, which boldly and innovatively depicted Edo's famous sights, is considered to have opened new horizons in Hiroshige's artistic career. This exhibition explores his compositional techniques and Hiroshige's “challenges.”
This is a rare opportunity to view masterpieces such as “Kameido Umeyashiki,” “Sudden Shower at Ohashi Bridge,” “Suidobashi Bridge and Surugadai,” “Takanawa Ushimachi,” “Jūman-tsubo Plain at Susaku, Fukagawa,” “Asakusa Ricefields and Torinomachi Festival,” and “New Year's Eve foxfires at the changing tree, Oji.” -works world-renowned for being and copied by Van Gogh.
